
A few weeks ago, at the pre-Christmas party, an updated strategy was presented to staff. Let’s take a look back at the journey we’ve been on so far.
FROM A ONE-MAN TECHNICAL OPERATOR TO A MAJOR PLAYER IN THE INDUSTRY
Pro-Tot was founded in 2008, initially operating as a sole trader specialising in manufacturing engineering. In 2011, the sole trader was incorporated as a limited company. Right from the start, the driving force behind the engineering workshop was the provision of services through its engineering operations. In 2014, installation and maintenance services were developed alongside the manufacturing operations. Even with the expertise we had at that time, solving our customers’ problems began to be one of our services. By 2020, providing problem-solving solutions had become part of our daily routine and had become an established part of our operations.
In 2023, the so-called ‘Holy Grail’ of industrial service providers – the development of our customers’ business operations – became the focus of our strategy. Today, all our original activities remain in full force – albeit in a more refined form – supporting Finnish industry through turnkey solutions.
A STRATEGY FOCUSED ON GROWTH AND PARTNERSHIPS
Over the years, we have grown significantly from a one-man engineering workshop into an industrial company employing 75 people. Our updated strategy continues our previous approach within the industry, but with a more targeted focus on developing the business as a whole through our customer segments and services. At company level, the focus will be on problem-solving and developing our customers’ business operations, with a particular emphasis on maintenance and related specialist services, as well as the delivery of technology solutions through our project organisation.
We will be even closer to the customer in the value chain, acting as a strategic partner that delivers added value. Our existing services, such as manufacturing, installation and after-sales service, will continue to operate as before, but will provide stronger support for our overall operations, particularly for our contract customers. Moving closer to the customer in the value chain also means building partnerships, as we cannot succeed on our own, nor can our customers. Our aim is for us, our customers and our partners to succeed.
Although our strategy focuses on contract customers and raises the bar for our services as a full-service provider, it is of paramount importance for regional industry to have access to our services. It is also our responsibility as a supplier to support regional industry. Consequently, as part of our strategy, we are committed to providing a wide range of services across the region.
CHALLENGES FACING FINNISH INDUSTRY AND HOW TO ADDRESS THEM
We are concerned about Finnish industry. The manufacturing sector in Finland is at risk of becoming stagnant and stuck in old ways of doing things, which will lead to a decline in international competitiveness. We have every opportunity and the expertise to boost the efficiency of Finnish industry. We are capable of improving the overall operational efficiency of the industry. Our strategy is based on achieving this.
Research has shown that our strength lies in delivering maintenance and technology solutions by meeting our customers’ quality requirements and creating customer value. These are the cornerstones that set us apart in our field.
FUTURE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
There are a few assumptions we can make about the future in our role as a turnkey supplier. We will face challenges relating to our workforce, retention and expertise, which we must resolve. Energy solutions such as industrial heating and cooling will become an increasingly everyday part of our lives. Rapidly evolving technologies and their application, as well as sustainability requirements, also present challenges. Our strategy also addresses the need for more comprehensive operations, the fast pace of the world and how to respond to it. We will focus on these aspects not only in our own operations but also, together with our partners, in the services we provide to our industrial customers.
